The Center for Global Antiquity is delighted to announce the arrival of our first postdoc. Dr. Sloane Geddes comes to us via an International Humanities Postdoc at the Cogut Institute, co-sponsored by CGA and with a departmental home in Classics. Sloane is a scholar of premodern South Asia, whose research focuses on the the Kapphiṇābhyudaya or The Rise of Kapphiṇa, a 9th century CE Sanskrit poem chronicling a king’s wondrous conversion to Buddhism. Her wider research interests include Sanskrit courtly poetry and the production of birch bark manuscripts in Kashmir. Sloane received her Ph.D. in Religious Studies at the University of Toronto and holds an M.A. in Asian Studies from the University of British Columbia. 

 

Sloane will be joined in the Sanskrit program (link: https://classics.brown.edu/academics/courses#/SANS) by Radha Blinderman (link: https://rocherfoundation.org/postdoctoral-fellowships-in-classical-indology/), a Rocher Foundation postdoc, making this a banner year for the study of Sanskrit and pre-modern South Asia at Brown.
